We Are Welcoming New Clients
Job Title Veterinary Surgeon | Location DE23 3AT | Job Type: Permanent
Salary Listing: £45,000 to £65,000 Depending on experience
As a Veterinary Surgeon, you thrive on the life-changing care you provide to much-loved pets and their owners. You’re motivated not just by the precision of your craft but by the compassion and empathy provided by a veterinary business that truly cares.
Because to you, a Vet shouldn’t be a generic corporate, medicine-dispensing function restricted and streamlined by high costs and impatient interaction. You became a Vet to listen and advise, and you’re a Vet looking to be a people-facing, decision-making leader.
Highfields Vets is a family-owned and family-run business that proudly practices high-class, high-quality care for every animal. Caring, compassionate, and community-focused, we are a home for personable and amiable professionals.
As our next Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll have the freedom to do things properly. Upholding high standards, you’ll influence decision-making, prescriptions, and assessment times. You’ll drive improvement by understanding and embracing the needs of our team and our clients.
The Key Requirements...
· A registered member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
· At least two years of practice-based experience, inclusive of small animal practice
*** We are happy to receive applications from veterinary professionals looking for either full-time or part-time work ***
Highfields Vets, based in a purpose-built facility in a local village centre close to Littleover, offers a high-quality client base and an uncompromising ambition to deliver the best possible standard of care for animals and pet owners from any background.
In a small, friendly, and growing veterinary practice, our entrusted staff are given the freedom to foster a personable approach and a positive working environment. Health and well-being are at the centre of all we do.
As our next Veterinary Surgeon, your daily duties will include performing consultations, imaging diagnostics, and surgery if you wish. This role could be consulting only and there is also the opportunity to do regular visits to our local rescue shelter if shelter medicine interests you. You won’t be called upon for unscheduled, out-of-hours work; our much-valued team is encouraged to have a healthy work-life balance. We do what’s right for our employees, not just our clients.
Our opening hours are 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to 13.30pm, on a Saturday. A full-time vet works 39 hours including paid lunch breaks, Monday to Friday, in a regular shift pattern, as well as one out of every five Saturday shifts, averaging out at a 40-hour week overall. Should an emergency operation mean you work beyond your scheduled shift, you will either be paid for overtime at your normal, pro-rata salary rate or be offered time back in lieu. If an emergency requires work outside of normal opening hours, an out-of-hours bonus is paid alongside normal, pro-rata overtime.
The Benefits and Perks...
· 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays on top (pro rata)
· Contributory pension
· Private medical healthcare with Vitality
· Fixed rotas
· Paid overtime and out-of-hours bonus, as required
· Death in service cover
